UP: HC orders arrest of rape accused MLA

The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court directed the police to arrest Bahujan Samaj Party MLA from Bilsi Assembly in connection with a rape case.

Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad
High Court on Tuesday directed the police to arrest Bahujan Samaj
Party MLA from Bilsi Assembly in connection with a rape case.

A division bench comprising Justice Abdul Mateen and
Justice Ashwani Kumar Singh passed this order on a writ
petition filed by Premchandra Sharma, seeking legal action
against MLA Yogendra Sagar.

The court directed Judicial Magistrate of Badaun
to issue a fresh non-bailable warrant against the
MLA within seven days and SSP Badaun to ensure his arrest
within 10 days thereafter, the petitioner`s counsel IB Singh
said.

According to petitioner`s counsel the matter relates
to a gang rape of a girl in 2008.

It was also alleged by the petitioner that local
police was not arresting the MLA due to the pressure.

The court while passing the order fixed May 10
as the next date of hearing.
