Lucknow: In a horrific incident, a six-year-old dalit girl was allegedly raped and buried in Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh.
The incident took place at Ratanpur village under Nautanwa police station.
Two boys - aged 8 and 14 - have been detained in the wake of the incident.
Villagers found the body of the girl buried in an under-construction house outside the village.
A daily has quoted Amirath, the uncle of the victim, as saying: "She had gone out to play with other kids in the village on Saturday. However, she didn`t return home. We searched for her the whole day and night and went to the police on Sunday. Despite our apprehension that she was kidnapped, the police registered a missing case. Now after seeing that she was raped and buried to death, the police arrested two minor boys of the village.”
Superintendent of Police of Maharajganj Sharad Sachan, meanwhile, said: "We have detained two suspects and we are interrogating them. The body of the girl has been sent for the postmortem. we are doing a thorough investigation."
The incident is a cruel reminder of the poor law and order situation prevailing in the state.
Four minor girls were raped in Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Bahraich districts on Sunday. Last month, two girls, both sisters, were gang-raped and then hanged from a tree outside their village in Badaun, leading to a national outrage. Even the United Nations and the US took note of the incident and aired their concern on the growing crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh.
