UP in debt burden of Rs 2.65 lakh cr

Uttar Pradesh is facing a debt burden of over Rs 2.65 lakh crore which was taken as loan from different financial institutions, the state Assembly was informed on Tuesday.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is facing a debt burden of over Rs 2.65 lakh crore which was taken as loan from different financial institutions, the state Assembly was informed on Tuesday.

"The state has loan totalling Rs 2,95,770 crore from the Centre and different financial institutions. For payment of interest on these loans, the state has arranged Rs 18,636 crore," Dairy Development Minister Ram Murti Verma said.

He was replying on behalf of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who holds the finance portfolio, to a question raised by BJP leader Suresh Kumar Khanna.

As per the regulations, the state could take loan upto 3 per cent of of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and UP had taken loans within that limit, Verma said.
