UP law and order situation worsening, `gunda raj` prevalent: BJP

New Delhi: A day after four Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs and a party MLA was detained in Moradabad, Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, General VK Singh, on Saturday said that strong steps are required to be taken to maintain law and order situation in UP.

Singh reportedly said that the law and order situation in the state needs improvement.

The remarks came after state BJP called a `mahapanchayat` in Kanth area after removal of loudspeaker from a temple flared communal tension in the area.

Muzaffarnagar riots accused MLA Sangeet Som, MPs Kunwar Singh Tanwar, Satyapal Saini, Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar Singh and Nepal Singh were subsequently detained by the police.

Soon after, the protesting BJP workers blocked train lines and pelted stones.

Senior BJP leader MA Naqvi said that the law and order situation in UP is worsening where “gunda raj” is prevalent.

He further blamed the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) government for not taking any concrete steps to control the situation.

Meanwhile, SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav said that the violence in Moradabad was orchestrated by BJP which solely works on what benefits it.

Meanwhile, Moradabad DIG Gulab Singh today said that the incident is being investigated and police forces have been deployed in the area to control the situation.
