Allahabad: UP police on Thursday nabbed two men in connection with the assassination bid on Nand Gopal alias Nandi, a minister in the UP government, wherein he was critically injured and continues to be on life support.
Inspector general of police, Allahabad range, Subesh Kumar Singh said his team had caught Rajesh Yasdav and Kripashankar Pandey from the Naini area here last night. The two are supporters of Samajwadi Party leader Dilip Mishra who is alleged to be the mastermind of the attack.
Mishra, a party block chief from Chaka, is already behind bars in another case. The police claim he conspired from the jail and asked his supporters to execute the deadly plan.
Police say Mishra has political and business rivalry with Nandi who, at 36, is the youngest minister in Mayawati government. Hunt is on for more persons who are behind the bombing.
A 45-year-old man was killed and five, including Nandi, the minister for finance (stamps and registrations), were critically injured in the bombing Monday afternoon near the minister`s house in Mutthiiganj locality of Allahabad, about 200 km from here.
Nandi will undergo plastic surgery here for his badly burnt hands. The surgery would be performed at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, where Gopal was admitted after the blast.
According to the officials, the condition of police constable Sanjay, who was also injured in the blast and is being treated at the critical care unit (CCU) of the institute, continues to be critical.
