UP: Mob sets afire eatery over death of youth

An 18-year-old youth on Tuesday committed suicide after he was allegedly beaten up by a roadside eatery owner over a dispute on parking of a taxi.

Kanpur: An 18-year-old youth on Tuesday committed
suicide after he was allegedly beaten up by a roadside eatery
owner over a dispute on parking of a taxi, after which a
mob went on the rampage torching the eatery.

Ankit Yadav entered into a war of words with the eatery
owner Prashant Tiwari who objected to the youth`s parking his
car in front of the eatery at Sanchedi locality, SHO Hemant
Rai said.

Prashant abused and assaulted Ankit who later went home
and allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself, the SHO
said.

Enraged over his death, the victim`s family and
neighbours ransacked the eatery and set it ablaze. They also
blocked roads for several hours.

The situation was brought under control after senior
police officers assured the mob of action on the matter.
The eatery-owner has escaped from the spot, police said.

Locals said Prashant is a SP leader but police did not
confirm it.
