Muzaffarnagar: Two factions of the Samajwadi Party clashed with each other in Shamli town in Prabhudhnagar district, leaving several injured, police said here on Wednesday.

The incident took place when party members met yesterday to discuss the SP`s defeat in Prabudhnagar in the recently held Assembly polls, police said.

The two groups, one supporting former minister Virender Singh and the other former MP Amir Alem Khan, faced off in a verbal duel which soon escalated into full blown clashes.
Police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control, said officials, adding a case has been registered against three party activists in this connection.
