Uttar Pradesh: Four cops gang-rape woman inside police station

Yet another ghastly incident of sexual assault has come to the fore in Uttar Pradesh where a woman was gang-raped by four policemen, including a Station House Officer (SHO), when she had gone to police station to meet her husband detained in connection with a case.

The shameful incident happened in Sumerpur police station of Hamirpur district. The woman was sexually assaulted when she had gone to seek her husband`s release, who was held for possessing a country made pistol. Also Read: 11-year-old hanged from tree in UP; family alleges rape, murder The woman was allegedly gang-raped by SHO and three constables for two hours inside the premises of the police station. Following this, the alleged victim lodged a complaint and Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Virendra Shekhar assured the woman that no one would be spared if found guilty. Shekhar told IANS that following a complaint by the woman, a First Information Report was lodged and the SHO was arrested on Wednesday. The three constables are absconding. The latest incident is surely to put Uttar Pradesh government under huge pressure, which is already facing severe criticism over spurt in sexual crimes against women. Crime against women have witnessed a sudden spurt in the state and on an average, 10 cases of rape are being reported every day. BJP state spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said the incident is yet another example of lawlessness in state of Uttar Pradesh.
