Lucknow: A youth was on Monday arrested by
the Special Task Force on charges of killing a girl after she
resisted his attempt to sexually assault her in Deoria
district, a senior UP police official said here.
"Abhishek Kushwaha was arrested near Salempur railway
station this morning for murder of Priyanka, who was killed in
Viraajmaar village in November last year," Special DGP Brij
Lal told reporters.
He said that Priyanka went missing on November 23 when
she was returning from a marriage function and her body was
recovered from the fields on the next day.
"During her visit on February 4, Chief Minister
Mayawati had directed to work out the case after which the
investigation was handed over to the STF," Lal said.
He said that during investigation Abhishek`s name
cropped up and was arrested.
"The accused admitted that he intended to rape
Priyanka, but when the girl resisted he killed her," Brij Lal
said.
