Kanpur: A first year student at the
government polytechnic here was seriously injured after he was
allegedly beaten up by his seniors, police said.

Ajay Kumar Yadav was thrashed by eight seniors with
hockey sticks and bats while he was in his hostel room last
evening, they said.

The Principal and Proctoral Board could round up five
students responsible for the incident, while three others
escaped, they said.

The accused have been handed over to the Nawabganj police
and an FIR for violence and misbehaviour with junior students
has been lodged against them, they said, adding that the
search is on for those missing.

A probe into the incident has also been ordered by the
institution.

While sources at the polytechnic claimed that Yadav was
"ragged" because he did not listen to his seniors, the
authorities have considered it as a case of clash between two
groups.
