UP teen blinded after rape attempt
Kannauj: After the shocking murder of a teen in Lakhimpur, another incident in Kannauj has sent shivers down the state of Uttar Pradesh.
A 14-year-old dalit girl
suffered grievous eye injury after she was allegedly stabbed by two youths when she resisted their attempt to rape her in
Gursahaiganj area here, a senior police officer said on Sunday.
Dilip and Niranjan Yadav attempted to rape the girl when
she had gone out in connection with some work in Gadwa Buzurg
village last evening, Rajendra Singh, Superintendent of Police,
"When the girl raised alarm, the duo attacked her with
knives, piercing her left eye and injuring the other", Singh
"The two accused are from the girl`s village", the SP
One person has been arrested in the case.
The girl was apparently found in the fields by villagers. She was rushed to the district hospital. Later she was referred to Kanpur for further treatment.
According to doctors attending to her, the left eye has suffered around 80 per cent damage and it might not be normal again as the cornea has been affected.
A sub-inspector and a constable have been suspended for not filing FIR on time.
While Niranjan Yadav has been arrested in the case, the other accused is on the run.
Recounting the horror the victim said that, “Two men came from behind and dragged me to a pit. They insulted me. When I resisted, they stabbed me in the eye. I felt as if I was dead.”
According to the girl’s mother, Devi, “When my daughter gave a statement, no one took it down. We haven’t received any help from the government. We want the culprits punished. They have spoilt my daughter’s life.”
The girl’s father, Prakash is equally distraught, “ Even if the police give them 4-5 years in jail, we will be happy. They have wronged my child. It breaks my heart to see her like this.”
Sub divisional magistrate Manoj Singhal said that
financial assistance would be given to the girl from the Chief
Minister`s Relief Fund.
Meanwhile political reactions have started pouring in regarding the incident.
Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party’s state president, said that, “Justice should be swift in the case and the state government should ensure that the victim is helped financially.”
And Congress leader, Digvijay Singh, while slamming the Mayawati government said that the cops in UP were incompetent and corrupt.
The chief minister of UP has not reacted on the incident so far.
The latest incident will only add to the troubles of Mayawati, who is already facing the heat in the Lakhimpur teen murder case.
In the Lakhimpur case a girl was found murdered in the police compounds. The parents of the girl had accused the cops of first raping and then killing the girl. However, the post mortem report has not confirmed rape of the girl.
