Chandauli: Villagers of Rema in the
district have gone all out to express solidarity with Anna
Hazare`s movement, requesting the administration to change the
name of their hamlet to `Anna`.
"If the people belonging to Anna’s village can follow
him as a role model and can bring a change in Ralegan Siddhi
why can`t we bring a change in our village," Jai Prakash a
resident of Rema, said.
Village head Renu Devi`s husband Bade Lal said they have
given an application to the administration requesting that the
name of their village be changed.
He said that each and every resident of the village has
also decided to add the title "Anna" to their names.
The residents of the village have even decided to add a
title ‘Anna’ to the names of babies.
"From now onwards I will feel proud to be called as
Ramsevak Anna instead of Ramsevak by the people," said a
resident of the village which has a population of around
Hazare’s posters adorn many mud huts and brick houses in
the village. Anti corruption slogans are also painted on walls
of the houses in the village.
"We have written slogans on the entrance of the village
that corrupt are prohibited from entering this village and the
corrupt residing here must get out. We don’t want ourselves to
be involved in corruption anymore," another resident Kishori
Around two dozen protesters in the district are also busy
pasting Anna`s posters on various trains passing through the
