UPCC authorises Sonia to nominate state unit chief

The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) on Monday unanimously authorised party chief Sonia Gandhi to nominate the state unit president, committee and AICC delegates.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) on Monday unanimously authorised party chief Sonia Gandhi to nominate the state unit president, committee
and AICC delegates.

"Newly elected UPCC delegates today unanimously authorised national president Sonia Gandhi to nominate the president, new committee and AICC delegates from the state,"
AICC general secretary and UP incharge Digvijay Singh told reporters here.

The decision was taken during a meeting of newly elected PCC delegates held at UPCC headquarters. Rita Bahuguna Joshi is at present the state unit chief.

The returning officer for organisational elections in UP, Pawan Singh Ghatwar, said that 867 PCC delegates out of 1,067 attended the meeting.

"The exercise of organisational elections is 80 percent complete. There were complaints from two-three places which will be looked into by central election authority," he
said.

Digvijay said that for the first time identity cards were issued to more than 56 lakh members in the state.

"If any person has any complaint regarding election process, then he should appeal before the election authority which will take final decision after a hearing," he said.

He said that in the wake of panchayat elections in UP, the party`s proposed yatra from October 2 has been postponed.

"The yatra will now start from November 19 and a public meeting will be organised," Digvijay said.

When asked when the name of the new state president will be announced, he said "as soon as possible".
