Wanted criminal killed in encounter in UP

A criminal allegedly involved in several cases of murder and carrying a cash reward of Rs 5,000 was killed in an encounter by the police in the jungles of Bitwada village in the district.



Muzaffarnagar: A criminal allegedly involved in several cases of murder and carrying a cash reward of Rs 5,000 was killed in an encounter by the police in the jungles of Bitwada village in the district.

Akbar was shot dead by the police yesterday. He was involved in more than 232 cases of murder, kidnapping and road robbery in Uttar Pradesh, Budhana Senior Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar told a news agency.

Three policemen, including a sub-inspector, were injured in the exchange of fire, police said, adding an associate of Akbar, however, managed to escape.
A 9mm pistol and a motorcycle were seized by the police from the spot.
