Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Monday
denied reports of farmers' suicide for failing to get the
right price of their produce in Burdwan and Bankura districts
but assured it would probe the matter.
"Reports about farmers' suicide in a section of media
are not correct," Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told
reporters on the sidelines of a programme.
However, she said that an inquiry would be made in
this regard.
She said some farmers had taken loans and asked the media
to crosscheck with concerned departments on any matter
involving the administration they wish to report on before
filing the same.
At least three farmers have reportedly committed suicide
in Bankura and Burdwan districts in the last few days for
being unable to get the right price of their produce.
