Withdraw security of people with criminal background: HC to UP

The Allahabad High Court directed Uttar Pradesh government to withdraw security given to 288 public representative, politicians and other persons having criminal background within ten days.

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court on Monday directed Uttar Pradesh government to withdraw security given to 288 public representative, politicians and other persons having criminal background within ten days.
Lucknow Bench of the court said that after withdrawal of these security cover, separate order may be passed only for those cases where there is an actual threat of any nature.

The Division Bench comprising Justice Imtiyaz Murtza and DK Upadhyaya, passed the order on a PIL filed by a local social activist. The petitioner, Nutan Thakur, challenged the action of state government to provide security cover to these persons.
Thakur told a news agency that earlier the court had directed to the UP government to file affidavit in this matter.

The court fixed April 07 as the next date of hearing.
