Meerut: An elderly woman was murdered by some unidentified persons, who barged into the house and decamped with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 50,000, police said.

Some unidentified persons broke into the house of Sub Inspector Sushma Chowdhary yesterday when she was out of the house and fled with jewellery and cash after strangulating her mother Rajbeeri (74), who was alone at that time of the incident, they said.

The incident came to light when Sushma made calls to her mother and she received no answer following which the SI called her neighbours, who broke open the door and found Rajbeeri strangled to death with a pillow, police said.
