Woman power to be celebrated at Maha Kumbh

Female ascetics taking part in the Maha Kumbh will celebrate woman power when an award will be conferred posthumously on the Delhi gang-rape victim in the presence of celebrities from various fields.

Allahabad: Female ascetics taking part in the Maha Kumbh here will celebrate woman power next month at a function where an award will be conferred posthumously on the Delhi gang-rape victim in the presence of celebrities from various fields.
"A training camp will be held under the aegis of the International Women Power Foundation at the Kumbh Mela ground from January 27.

"Thousands of young women will be imparted training in yoga, spirituality and self-defence at the camp," Foundation’s chairperson Anandmayee Puri told reporters.

"Next month, we will hold an International Women Power Conference where bereaved family members of the 23-year-old paramedic who died of injuries suffered during the gang-rape will be presented with an award saluting her courage," she said.

"The family will also be given an assistance of Rs one lakh at the conference to be held on February 12," Puri said.

Stressing the need to empower women through the spread of spiritual education, she said a host of women dignitaries had been invited for the event.

These included Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav, businesswoman and social worker Nita Ambani and Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra, Puri said.
