Muzaffarnagar: A youth has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a minor girl here, police said on Monday.
The incident happened yesterday at Sikka village in Shamli district, they said.
The accused, identified as Ashok Kumar entered the girl`s house when she was alone and tried to rape her, they added.
The neighbours of the girl, who came rushing in after hearing the minor`s cries, nabbed the accused and later handed him over to the police, police said, adding a case has been registered against the accused.
In another incident, a woman allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze near here, police said today.
The incident happened last evening in Shamli district, they said.
Sanjida was worried over her husband`s illness, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shelender Kumar said.
