Ghaziabad: A youth-wing leader of Samajwadi Party was shot dead this morning by three assailants in Vasundhara colony of Indirapuram, police said.
Pradeep Chaudhary, a former BSP councillor who had joined SP, was shot dead around 8.30 am by the three motorcycle borne assailants while he was going to a gymnasium on his bike near Mewar College.
According to City Superintendent of Police (SP) Shiv Hari Meena, Pradeep had alighted from his motorcycle and was parking it when suddenly the assailants pumped around eight bullets in his head and abdomen and fled from the spot.
He was rushed to nearby Naraendra Mohan Hospital by police, where he was declared brought dead.
The deceased's brother Praveen lodged an FIR against Mahender Phelwan and Narender Noodal and one unidentified youth at Indirapuram Police station.
The city SP said Pradeep was a history-sheeter with 18 criminal cases of murder, gangster act, and extortion lodged against him in different police stations.
According to SHO Indirapuram Hari Dayal Singh Yadav, there was a prolonged dispute concerning an 80 square yards plot of land in Rajendra Nagar Industrial Area of Sahibabad between Pradeep and the named two accused.
The body has been sent for post mortem and further investigations into the case are on, police said.
