Dehra Dun: In a setback to CBI which is
probing the alleged fake encounter of MBA student Ranbir
Singh, four of his accomplices have secured bail as the
investigating agency failed to file charge sheet against them
within the stipulated time.
While hearing a bail application of Ram Kumar, Ashok
Kumar, Shekhar Tyagi and Amit Bhatnagar yesterday, CBI
Judicial Magistrate Anuradha Garg agreed to the arguments of
defence counsels that the investigating agency had failed to
file charge sheet against them within the 60 days of their
arrest and so they should be released on bail.
The court later granted bail to them and asked each
one of them to furnish personal bonds of Rs 25,000.
The court also directed the CBI to file a charge sheet
against the four accused at the earliest.
After the preliminary investigations, CBI had claimed
that Singh was a criminal and had come here with the intention
of robbery. It also said Singh and his accomplices snatched
the service revolver of a sub-inspector on July 3 this year.
On the basis of its findings, CBI arrested Ram Kumar
and Ashok Kumar, residents of district Baghpat and Tyagi and
Bhatnagar, residents of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh in August.
The CBI also arrested seven police personnel, who were
allegedly involved in the encounter of Singh.
