Dehradun: What was meant to be a fitness test to identify overweight policeman in Uddham Singh Nagar district has turned into a big controversy in Uttarakhand.
Last Sunday, overweight constables were summoned to the police lines in Rudrapur. There in the presence of SSP Udham Singh Nagar Keval Khurana, they were made to go through some physical tests.
One overweight constable was then ordered to take a round of the ground with a SHO on his back. The images and video of the incident soon made it to the social media, prompting Uttarakhand DGP BS Sidhu to take note of it.
The Times of India quoted Sidhu as saying: "Constabulary forms the backbone of the police department and it is not right to insult a constable publicly." The report added that Sidhu has claimed that strict action would be initiated if it is found that the constables were harassed.
The DGP has ordered a probe by DIG Kumaon region.
