Dehra Dun: In a volte-face, the Congress
on Wednesday said in the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha that it will
not hold any dharna or fast in the well of the House in order
to maintain the highest traditions of democracy.
After bringing a resolution seeking pardon for the six
suspended Congress MLAs, Leader of the opposition Harak Singh
Rawat said a decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) held last night.
"Speaker Sir, I want to assure from the entire
opposition including BSP and UKD that we will not stage dharna
or fast in the well of the house," Rawat said.
The CLP has decided that the members can come in the
well of the house to press for their demand under unavoidable
circumstances but they would not hold dharna or fast in the
House, he said.
Five Congress MLAs - Kishore Upadhyay, Balbir Singh
Negi, Mayukh Mahar, Mahendra Singh Mahra, Govind Singh Kunjwal
and Rajesh Juwantha - were suspended for three sittings and
forcefully evicted from the House last night after they
refused to end their dharna over demands of immediate solution
of problems of their respective constituencies.
