Dehradun: Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi and Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Tuesday asked people to follow the path of human welfare shown by Ramayana author Maharshi Valmiki.

"By creating an epic like the Ramayana, Maharshi Valmiki gave a lesson in values like sacrifice, compassion and humanism to the society which inspire us to render our service to the deprived sections," Qureshi said in a message on the eve of Valmiki Jayanti.

"On a day like this we should resolve to imbibe Maharshi Valmiki's spirit of magnanimity in our lives. This will be real tribute to him," the Governor said.

In his message on the occasion, the Chief Minister asked people to follow the values taught by Valmiki through the Ramayana.

"Ramayana alone is the epic which truly inspires us to live an ideal life dedicated to love, compassion and goodwill," he said, adding, "If we tread the path shown by the Adi Kavi it will be a real tribute to him."
