Former UJVNL chairman held on charges of corruption

Former Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited Chairman Yogendra Prasad has been arrested by the Vigilance Department on charges of corruption, an official said on Tuesday.

Dehra Dun: Former Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut
Nigam Limited Chairman Yogendra Prasad has been arrested by
the Vigilance Department on charges of corruption, an official
said on Tuesday.

Prasad was called for questioning to the vigilance
office last evening where he was arrested, Vigilance
Superintendent of Police B K Juyal said.

The department was on the lookout for Prasad ever since
the Uttarakhand High Court had vacated the stay on his arrest
in March this year.

It has lodged several cases against him for allegedly
misusing his position in releasing payments worth crores of
rupees to various companies, including one of reportedly
belonging to his kin, without verification of work entrusted
to them.

Prasad, a former National Hydroelectric Power
Corporation (NHPC) Chairman, was appointed as an advisor in
Uttarakhand government in 2006.

Later he took over as Chairman of UJVNL, a state
government agency for power generation, in 2007. However, in
2010, he was removed from the post as government said he had
already attained the age of 65 years, the limit fixed for
heading a state-run corporation in the hill state.
