Dehra Dun: Uttarakhand government has formed a team to try to locate bodies of the eight trekkers, who went missing following turbulent weather in upper Himalayan reaches 10 months ago, official sources said on Wednesday.
The move comes in the wake of a trekking team claiming that they spotted the bodies of the trekkers, who had gone missing from Gangotri-Kalindikhal stretch, they said.
The 14-member team comprising experts from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) would leave Uttarkashi city on Thursday morning, they said. The team would travel to Gangotri by bus and then proceed on wards on foot, they added.
The bodies of three trekkers from West Bengal and five local porters were reportedly spotted in a tent between Sita glacier and Tapovan by the trekking team led by Alind Mukherjee three days ago.
The Uttarkashi district administration had given up on the search operation after failed attempts.
