Harish Rawat seeks grants to fund action plan on yoga promotion

Dehradun: Uttarakhand has sought a grant in the ratio of 90:10 from the Centre to fund its ambitious action plan on the promotion of yoga and for tapping the ancient form of exercise to provide employment to people.

In a recent letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Harish Rawat spoke of the state government's action plan on the promotion of yoga and the limited resources at its disposal to fund it.

"There is a workforce of about 20000 yoga-trained people in the state. We propose to deploy them as part-time yoga instructors at Ayurvedic hospitals and identified parks across the state where yoga practice sessions will be held on a daily basis. Initially we propose to pay them a salary of Rs 11000 per month " Rawat?said in his letter to PM.

"You are aware that the financial resources at the disposal of the state government are extremely limited. Hence it is requested that the proposal for allocation of grants to the state in the ratio of 90:10 be approved," Rawat said in the letter whose copy was circulated to the press yesterday.

Rawat also apprised the Prime Minister of the state government's plans to develop yoga ghats along banks of the Ganga in Rishikesh in view of a Yoga Kumbh to be held on the occasion of Ardhakumabh in Haridwar next year.
