Notification for `Mahakumbh` issued

The Uttarakhand government has issued notification for the Mahakumbh mela, scheduled to begin early next year, officials said here on Wednesday.

issued notification for the Mahakumbh mela, scheduled to begin
early next year, officials said here on Wednesday.

The notification was issued yesterday evening and would
come into effect on January 1 and will remain in force till
April 30 next year, they said.

The districts of Haridwar, Dehra Dun, Tehri and Pauri
will see events related to the mela.

An area of 130 km along the bank of river Ganga has been
notified as the Mahakumbh area, where nearly 5 to 6 crore
pilgrims, including many from abroad, are expected to take dip
in the holy river.

During the four-month-long mela, responsibility of
arrangements related to Mahakumbh and law and order within the
notified area would lie on the shoulders of mela
administration and the concerned district administration would
work under it.

There would be 11 `snans` (bathing days) including 3
shahi `snans` during the period.
