Dehra Dun: Uttarakhand Governor Margaret
Alva on Friday said she has suggested to Chief Minister Ramesh
Pokhriyal Nishank to prepare a ten-year action plan for
meeting the future challenges facing the state.

"During a meeting, I asked Chief Minister (Nishank) that
the government should identify the challenges of future and
prepare an action plan on that basis for the next one decade,"
Alva told reporters at Rajbhavan here.

She said electricity generation, employment creation and
migration will be among the major challenges in future and
they should be kept in mind while making plans for the state.

In this regard, Alva said the old watermills being
traditionally used in the hills for grinding floor, can be
restored and upgraded for producing electricity.

The Governor said she had talked with Union New and
Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah and convinced him
of fully funding the pilot project for the restoration of 100
watermills in the hill state.

While University of Energy and Petroleum Studies would
work as a nodal agency for the project, HESCO, a Dehra
Dun-based NGO, would give technical assistance for restoration
and upgradation of old watermills, she added.

She said Uttarakhand is a new state and the focus should
be on infrastructure development, investment, employable force
creation and revival of agriculture, horticulture and
floriculture for sustainable growth.
