Rains bring cold conditions, 1 killed in landslides in U`khand

A man was killed in landslides triggered by rains in Uttarkashi as light to moderate rains lashed most parts of Uttarakhand Wednesday bringing cold conditions in the hill state.

The rains triggered landslides at Chhatanga village in
Uttarkashi district on Rishikesh-Yamunotri National Highway
last evening, killing a 45-year-old man, officials said.
The landslides also blocked traffic on the road
stranding pilgrims visiting Yamunotri shrine. However, the
road was opened for light vehicles after some time.

Rains lashed most parts of Garhwal and Kumaon region.
Dehra Dun received 15.8 mm of rains, Pauri 25 mm, Ranikhet 38
mm Mukteshwar 37 mm, Nainital 31, Rudraprayag and Barkot both
40 mm.
Met Director Anand Sharma said the current weather
conditions are likely to remain for another day with most
areas likely to receive light to moderate rains.

Hailstorm, squall and thundershowers might also lash
few areas in Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh and an alert
has also been issued by the weather department for pilgrims
visiting Chardhams in Garhwal Himalayas.

The continuous rains also brought cold conditions in
the hill state and several people were seen wearing woollen
clothes.
