Dehra Dun: A Union minister from Uttarakhand on Friday asked the state government to identify alternative sites where people from over 250 villages affected by natural
disasters could be rehabilitated.

Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Harish Rawat said that since 252 villages have become unsafe the state government should search the forest land to settle the people. Rawat said once the land is identified by the state government, he would talk to the Prime Minister and the forest and environment minister to sanction release of the forest land for human habitation.
Rawat said he had visited most of the areas which were hit by natural disasters last month and found it surprising that the BJP government has "failed to spend even 10 per cent
of Rs 600 crore provided by the centre in the affected areas."

"I demand that the state government should immediately declare a relief package for farmers on the lines of Haryana," Rawat said.
