Sarita Arya appointed U'khand Mahila Cong president

 Nainital MLA Sarita Arya has been appointed president of Uttarakhand Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee.

Dehradun: Nainital MLA Sarita Arya has been appointed president of Uttarakhand Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee.

Giving this information here today Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman Mathura Dutt Joshi said Arya replaces Sarojini Kaintura who was made chairperson of the State Women's Commission last month.

A communication regarding her appointment as state women's Congress president was received by PCC chief  Kishore Upadhyay here yesterday, Joshi said.

Welcoming the move, PCC President Upadhyay said Arya's appointment as the state women's Congress chief will strengthen the party ahead of the state assembly elections due in 2017.

Arya's appointment to the post is being seen in political circles here as a move to strike a regional balance in party affairs in the state.

While PCC chief Kishore Upadhyay hails from ?Garhwal region Arya belongs to the Kumaon region.

Arya who represents the Nainital (reserved) constituency in the state assembly is a prominent SC face in the party.
