Dehradun: The hill town of Mussoorie in Uttarakhand received the season's first snowfall today, luring hordes of fun lovers to the tourist hotspot even as fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of Garhwal Himalayas shrouded the famous temples of Kedarnath, Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib under thick sheets of snow.
The lower areas including Dehradun were lashed by varying degrees of rainfall causing a sharp fall in temperature across Uttarakhand.
The road to Mussoorie located about 25 km away from here was witness to a series of traffic jams as people rushed to the hill resort to enjoy the snow.
It was a brisk business for shopkeepers owning tea stalls along Dehradun-Mussoorie road as tourists turned up every now and then to devour steaming pakoras.
The snowfall which started last evening in the upper areas of the mountains in Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag districts where the famed temples are located is still continuing, Disaster Management official Nandkishore Joshi said.
Fresh snowfall in the mountains and showers in the lower areas have brought the mercury down?by several notches driving people indoors, he said.
