Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has
recommended a CBI probe into the death of Swami Nigamananda,
who was on fast for nearly four months demanding a halt to
quarrying in Ganga.

"The government had asked for the CBI probe on June
15. It issued a notification yesterday in this regard,"
Uttarakhand State Media Advisory Committee chairman Devendra
Bhasin said on Sunday.

The details sought into the swami`s death by the
Centre have also been forwarded and a copy of the same has
been sent to the CBI, he said.

"Opposition Congress leaders have been demanding for a
CBI probe to put the government under pressure. The step taken
by the state should end their comments on the issue...,"
Bhasin said.

Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Harak Singh
Rawat should now ask the Centre why no action has been taken
on its part on the issue, he said.

The 36-year-old seer of Haridwar-based Matri Sadan
Ashram was on indefinite fast since February 19. Nigamanda was
in coma when he passed away on June 13.
