Six killed, two injured as jeep falls into gorge in Uttrakhand

Six persons, including two children, were today killed and two others seriously injured today when the jeep in which they were travelling fell into a gorge in Purola area of Uttarkashi district.

Dehradun: Six persons, including two children, were today killed and two others seriously injured today when the jeep in which they were travelling fell into a gorge in Purola area of Uttarkashi district.

The accident occurred when the jeep was going from Damta to Kandari village in the district, police said.

The driver lost control over the vehicle near a diversion and plunged into a deep gorge killing five of its occupants on the spot. Another person died on way to the hospital, they said.

Two of the occupants of the jeep sustained serious injuries in the mishap and have been referred to Doon Hospital here.

The driver of the jeep was also killed in the accident.

Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi expressed deep shock over the loss of lives in the accident.
