Gopeshwar (Uttarakhand): Ten Border Roads Organisation personnel were injured on Monday when a bailey bridge on way to Badrinath collapsed while being repaired and fell into a river flowing underneath.

The mishap occurred at Hanumanchatti, about 10 km from the Himalayan shrine, when the BRO personnel called "pioneers" were trying to open the bridge lying in disuse, BRO commandant in charge of its 21 task force Sanjay Singh said.

The bridge fell all of a sudden while being repaired into Hanumanganga, a tributary of the Alaknanda and so did all the labourers working on it, he said.

Ten BRO pioneers were injured in the mishap.

However, all of them were rescued with help from SDRF personnel and admitted to a hospital in Joshimath, he said.

They are being treated and the situation is under control, he said.
