Dehra Dun: The Uttarakhand government has issued a Government Order (GO) regarding creation of four new districts of Ranikhet, Didihaat, Kotdwar and Yamunotri, officials said on Thursday.

The GO, issued yesterday, however, did not mention the borders of the districts and their headquarters, they said.

The borders and the headquarters would be decided after the state Assembly elections due in February next year, the officials said, adding that the appointment of District Magistrates and SPs would also be done after the polls.

There are 13 districts in the state at present and the new ones will take the number to 17.

Former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had announced earlier this year that districts of Kotdwar (presently part of Pauri district), Yamunotri (Uttarkashi), Ranikhet (Almora) and Didihaat (Pithoragarh) would be formed taking into account the aspirations of the people.

Soon after taking over as the Chief Minister of the state in September, B C Khanduri had said he would make sure the new districts were formed at the earliest.

Move to create new district Kotdwar is highly commendable. The Uttrakhand govt. certainly must have several well thought development projects and plans for this neglected door step of Uttrakhand. As the notifiefd area is amalmagated of beautiful hills, rich heritage, industrial establishments and fertile plains, the district can be developed in multiple directions with suitable input of required infrastructure. I wish all peace, prosperity and sucess to this distict of Uttrakhand. The people of this area are highly thankful to Ho`ble CM Shri BC Khanduriji and also former CM, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyalji for their dedicated efforts in development of Uttrakhand. `` Jai Bharat, Jai Dev Bhumi.``
