U`khand Assembly observes two-min silence for Japan victims

Uttarakhand assembly observed a two-minute silence to mourn the death of thousands of people in Japan`s worst-ever earthquake which was followed by devastating tsunami earlier this month.

Dehra Dun: Uttarakhand assembly on Wednesday
observed a two-minute silence to mourn the death of thousands
of people in Japan`s worst-ever earthquake which was followed
by devastating tsunami earlier this month.

Moving a resolution in this regard, state
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant said people of
Uttarakhand stand by the citizens of Japan in this hour of
crisis as the hill state has also suffered several natural
disasters in the past and lost many people.

Regarding safety of people from Uttarakhand working in
Japan, Pant said Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank is in
touch with Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and has been
informed that they are safe.

Speaker Harbans Kapoor, Leader of the opposition Harak
Singh Rawat, Leader of BSP legislature party Mohd Shehzad and
Leader of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal Diwakar Bhatt also echoed
similar views on the resolution.

Later, the House observed a two-minute silence in the
memory of those killed in the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
