Local BJP MLA Arvind Pandey, accused of assaulting a government official on duty, today surrendered before the police here.

Gadarpur (Ukhand): Local BJP MLA Arvind Pandey, accused of assaulting a government official on duty, today surrendered before the police here.

Pandey surrendered at Gadarpur police station at noon from where he was taken to a local hospital for medical check-up, sources at the police station said.

Pandey was accompanied by BJP leader Balraj Pasi and Kashipur MLA H S Cheema at the time of his surrender, they said.

Uttarakhand High Court had on September 2 rejected Pandey's petition seeking cancellation of an FIR against him and a stay on his arrest in connection with the alleged thrashing of Nayab Tehsildar Shersingh Gwal by him and his supporters.

An NBW was issued against Pandey in the case on August 29 after which he had approached the court seeking a stay on his arrest.

The warrant was issued against Pandey on the basis of an FIR in which he and eight of his supporters are accused of assaulting Gwal on August 25 when the official had gone to resolve a land dispute in the legislator's constituency.
