Dehradun: Rebel BJP leader Uma Bharati today shared the dais with senior party leader L K Advani at Gangotri in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

The two leaders met at a state government-sponsored programme to make the Ganga pollution free.

Bharti, who had been camping at Gangotri for the past two days, also exchanged pleasantries with the BJP stalwart.

However, it was not known what transpired between the two leaders, BJP sources said.

Speaking at the campaign function named "Nirmal Ganga, Sparsh Ganga", Advani said his visit to Gangotri had fulfilled his long-cherished desire to have a glimpse of the place where the mighty river originates.

"I had long cherished the desire to have a darshan of Gangotri which has been fulfilled today," he said.

The programme was launched from the holy city of Rishikesh last month in the presence of Advani.

The BJP leader, who was accompanied by daughter Pratibha, was also presented a replica of Gangotri temple by the priests of the shrine whose portals were reopened for pilgrims yesterday after a gap of several months.

Chief Minister R P Nishank said his cabinet had passed a resolution seeking world heritage status for the Ganga. The resolution has been sent to the Union government for further action, he said.

Former Chief Minister B C Khanduri, state party President Bishan Singh Chufal were also present on the occasion.
