Uttarakhand Cong chief Yashpal Arya to be removed

Cong co-ordination committee in Uttarakhand decided to remove the state party chief Yashpal Arya and periodically review the performance of CM.

Dehra Dun: The Congress co-ordination committee in Uttarakhand on Monday decided to remove the state party chief Yashpal Arya and periodically review the performance of Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna and his cabinet.

The meeting of the ruling Congress co-ordination committee, the first since Bahuguna government assumed office in March, raked up the issue of "one man, one post" and conceded that there has been "laxity" in working of the party since the formation of the government.

Congress general secretary and in-charge of party affairs in the hill state, Chaudhary Birendra Singh today said the new PCC chief would be selected shortly, a demand put up by Union minister Harish Rawat.

"I frankly admit that there had been some laxity in the working of the party after the formation of the government," he said.

"Congress has always followed the principle of one-man one-post. Yashpal Arya has become a cabinet minister and is holding nearly a dozen departments. Due to this, there has been a laxity in the party`s work. Obviously, we will change the PCC chief," said Chowdhary, who is also the chairman of the co-ordination committee.
The co-ordination committee also decided to reshuffle the entire PCC.

The co-ordination committee would review the working of the chief minister along with his cabinet colleagues and would meet again in every three months, Chowdhary said.

"The government will be answerable to every issue raised by any member of the committee in its previous meeting," Chaudhary said.
