Dehradun: Five persons including the main accused in the alleged attack on a woman forest officer and her team for trying to stop illegal mining in Rampur area of Nainital district, have been arrested, police said on Saturday.
The main accused identified as Kulwinder Singh Kinda was arrested yesterday by a joint team of the police and Special Operations Group (SOG) from his home at Bannakhedi, Senior Sub-Inspector of Ramnagar police station Mohan Chandra Pandey said.
Four others have also been arrested in this connection, he added.
Kalyani, a trainee Indian Forest Services officer posted at Tarai West forest division, in a complaint on May 1 said that she along with her team reached near Dabka river in Baintkhedi area on April 29 to prevent illegal mining, police said.
"As they initiated seizing of a JCB machine and some other vehicles involved in the illegal work, a large number of people gathered there and started protesting. They misbehaved with her, attacked their vehicles with canes and pelted stones," police said, adding that they managed to leave from there somehow.
On her complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC against District Panchayat member of Bazpur in Udham Singh Nagar district, Kulvinder Singh Kinda and 50 other unidentified persons.
