Yechury slams Mamata for terming CPI-M and BJP as brothers

Kolkata: CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury on Friday lashed out at Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for her "frequent change of allies" for political benefit and said it was amazed how she can term BJP and CPI-M as brothers.

"If BJP can get entry into West Bengal politics, it is by riding on the shoulders of Trinamool Congress. Communal forces have made foray into the state through Trinamool Congress," Yechury told reporters at the party office here.

Ridiculing Banerjee's "efforts" to tag CPI-M with BJP, Yechury said, "She was first with BJP-led NDA, left it to join with Congress-led UPA in 2001, and again tagged with NDA after the Gujarat riots in 2002.

"These show who is whose brother and the relation they maintain and Banerjee's statement is the height of political opportunism."

Asked as to why CPI-M poll manifesto had a two-line mention of BJP, Yechury said, "This indicates what is the political relevance of BJP in West Bengal."

Yechury had a dig at Mamata Banerjee's selection of candidates on the basis of political leadership backed by bureaucratic efficiency, and said, "Trinamool's Khardah constituency candidate Amit Mitra had projected Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi when he visited London as FICCI secretary general at a business summit."

Turning to absconding Trinamool Congress Bijpur assembly candidate Subhrangshu Roy, he said, "Warrant of arrest has been issued against him and it should be executed. I hope law must take its own course."

Shall we laugh or admire such comment by Mamata? Probably she has complete loss of her memory. It is she who was minister in NDA Govt and supported BJP till last general election. She only once told that BJP is untouchable when she was thrown out of Congress. Our politicians can say anything for the sake of politics.
