Kolkata: In a pre-poll drive against illegal
arms last month, the state police has seized 227 arms from
different districts, the state`s Additional Chief Electoral
Officer N K Sahana said on Thursday.
Thirty-four arms were each seized from South 24-Parganas
and Hooghly districts, 31 from North 24-Parganas, 28 from
Murshidabad, 23 from Burdwan, 17 from West Midnapore, 15 from
Birbhum, 11 from Nadia, eight from Howrah, seven each from
Purulia and Malda, four from East Midnapore, three each from
Bankura and North Dinajpur and two from Darjeeling.
However, no arm has yet been seized from three districts
of South Dinajpur, Coochbehar and Jalpaiguri.
To a question, Sahana said except in Kolkata, non-bailable
warrants were there against a total of 75,000 persons in the
state, the maximum being in South 24-Parganas and minimum in
North Dinajpur disrict.
