25,000 people in North 24 Parganas relief camp

At least 25,000 people in North 24 Parganas have been accommodated in 120 relief camps as heavy rainfall flooded many parts of the district, officials said on Saturday.

Power department secretary Malay De, who has been
deputed to monitor the situation, visited Barasat along with
state Food Minister Jyotipriya Mullick to oversee the relief
work.

An estimated four lakh populace have been affected in
the district, the worse areas being Swaroopnagar, Badoria,
Sadeskhali-II, Barasat and parts of Barrackpore subdivision,
ADM (Treasury) Rahman said.
Although the embankment is intact, the Ichamati river
is already overflowing due to a high tide and rainfalls.
