50 decomposed bodies shifted to Kolkata hospitals

Fifty of the decomposed bodies of the May 28 Jnaneswari Express mishap were shifted to three hospitals in Kolkata from the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital, hospital sources said here today.

the May 28 Jnaneswari Express mishap were shifted to three
hospitals in Kolkata from the Midnapore Medical College and
Hospital, hospital sources said here today.

The morgue at the Midnapore hospital has 12 freezers with
a maximum capacity for 36 bodies. But, the number of bodies it
received following the May 28 mishap was being difficult for
the staff to handle, they said.

All the 148 bodies, many of which were unidentified, were
taken to the Midnapore hospital with some kept on ice slabs.

"The ice has been melting and there is a terrible stench
from the bodies," an official said.

Fifty of the decomposed bodies were shifted to three
hospitals, including state-run SSKM hospital, in Kolkata.
