Kolkata: A day after 10 women were
injured in an acid attack while travelling in a ladies
compartment of a suburban train here, a senior railway
official described it as an `isolated incident`.

Talking to reporters at the state secretariat after
meeting Home Secretary Samar Ghosh, ADG (Rail) Dilip Mitra
said, "The incident is an isolated one and not an organised
crime. We are trying to tackle the situation with our limited
resources."

To a question, Mitra said Railways had a description
of the man who threw acid.

Mitra, who visited some of injured at the B R Singh
Hospital of Eastern Railway, said that the condition of two
was still critical.

"One of them Mamata Panja is unconscious. I could not
talk to her," Mitra said.

The Railways have decided to place phone numbers of
the Railway control room in all compartments for passengers to
contact the control room which in turn would convey the
message to the escort and the guard in the train, he said.
The acid attack occurred when the down
Sealdah-Baruipur local train was going towards the Dhakuria
station around 7.35 pm yesterday.

Eastern Railway this evening deployed RPF escorts in
women`s compartments of EMU locals in both Howrah and Sealdah
divisions.

"There will be RPF escorts, including women
constables, in the ladies compartments of EMU locals in both
Howrah and Sealdah divisions from 6 pm today," a ER spokesman
said.
