Adhir`s dig at Mamata in naming metro stations

Naming of metro railway stations in the city after renowned personalities came in for criticism from Minister of State for Railways Adhir Chowdhury.

Kolkata: The naming of metro railway stations in the city after renowned personalities came in for criticism from Minister of State for Railways Adhir Chowdhury Monday.
"Stations should be named by the locations where they are. Naming them like Mahanayak Uttamkumar and Kavi Subhas actually confuse commuters," Chowdhury said at the start of tunnelling work for the East-West Metro in the city.
The idea of christening metro stations after eminent personalities belonged to Mamata Banerjee when she was the railway minister.

She had named six stations after legendary film actor Uttam Kumar, patriot Kshudiram Bose, poet Subhas Mukhopadhyay, Rabindranath Tagore`s Geetanjali which won him the Noble prize in literature and rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Chowdhury said that Railways should offer simplified and uncomplicated travel experience to the passengers.

"Naming stations after personalities makes things difficult for passengers to understand," he added
