Raigunj: Over 150 Bangladeshi inmates of
Raigunj District Correctional Home, many of whom had already
completed their sentence, on Thursday launched a hunger strike
demanding their release.

The matter came to light when four of the inmates were
admitted to the district hospital in North Dinajpur district
yesterday after their condition turned serious.

When contacted jail superintendent BK Roy said the
inmates were on a hunger strike for the last few days
protesting the delay in releasing them.

Many of the inmates, who had been convicted under
Foreigners Act for entering India illegally, had completed
their term in 2010 but were still languishing there.
