Kolkata: Jyoti Basu was remembered on his
98th birthday on Friday with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata
Banerjee garlanding his portrait at the Writers` Buildings.
At the Assembly, the late CPI(M) partriarch`s portrait
was garlanded by Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay, deputy Speaker
Sonali Gupta and Leader of the House Partha Chatterjee.
Leader of the Opposition Surjakanta Mishra, CPI(M)
MLA and former minister Abdur Rezzak Mollah, besides former
Speaker H A Halim also paid tribute to the veteran leader.
Veteran Forward Bloc leader Ashok Ghosh, who was among
the architects of the Left Front in 1977 along with Basu,
visited Indira Bhavan where Basu lived.
Indira Bhavan also has a life size wax statue of Basu,
who was chief minister of the state between 1977 and 2000.
